About the course

This workshop will guide you through dermatology testing step by step, with hands-on experience and supervision.

Dermatology is a discipline where simple bench-side testing can be highly rewarding. Effective use of the often under-utilised practice microscope can be useful for diagnosis, narrowing differential lists, and to prompt more advanced testing or to monitor response to therapy. However, accurate sampling and interpretation is required and these learned skills will improve with practice.

This workshop will guide you through dermatology testing step by step, with hands-on experience and supervision. Lectures will be integrated with directed practical sample preparation and slide reading. We will go through the use of the practice microscope to improve your familiarity and confidence in diagnosing a selection of dermatological conditions. You will have an opportunity to ask all of those questions you have been storing up and you can even bring along those troublesome slides.

This workshop is suitable for vets in first opinion practice wishing to refresh and improve their skills in practical dermatology diagnostics involving the often neglected practice microscope and would be of particular interest to those working towards an RCVS CertAVP in Medicine or Dermatology.
