Course information Introduction
This one-day course is aimed at veterinary surgeons with little or no experience of diagnostic ultrasound and those who feel they could make much more of their ultrasound machine. It’s one for those who find themselves thinking, “If only I knew where to start!” The day will be a mixture of lectures, demonstrations and practical sessions, with emphasis on getting as much hands-on time as possible. Topics covered will include basic ultrasound physics and machine setup, indications for abdominal ultrasonography, practical ultrasonography of the liver and gall bladder, spleen, kidneys, urinary bladder and GI tract.
- Basic ultrasound physics – understand how it all works and know the limitations
- Get to know the machine, what do with all the buttons and how can they help us
- Indications – why and when to use ultrasound in practice
- A logical approach –perform a methodical abdominal ultrasound exam
- The normal abdomen – specific information on each of the organ systems to be examined (liver, gall bladder, spleen, kidneys, urinary bladder and GI tract)
- Put it into practice – get stuck in!
Equipment and Facilities
IMV imaging will provide all the necessary ultrasound equipment.
**Please note that because of the difficulty providing animals for scanning, delegates are kindly requested to bring a friendly dog with them for the duration of the day. It is important that the dogs can be clipped as appropriate for a complete abdominal ultrasound exam.**
The day will be informal and relaxed with maximum time for hands-on learning. Arrive for tea and coffee from 8:30am, ready to begin the lecture at 9am. We’ll aim to finish the day by 4.30pm. This will count for 6 hours of CPD. Places are limited to a maximum of 12 delegates so book your place early to avoid disappointment. Course notes, refreshments and lunch will be provided.
