On this one day course we’ll show you how to approach the thorax and perform thoracic surgery, firstly discussing these procedures in the lecture room before performing them in practical sessions.

What you’ll learn:

  • How to place chest drains in your patients
  • How to perform intercostal thoracotomies and sternotomies
  • Exploring the thorax – normal cardiorespiratory anatomy, PDA, thoracic duct and peribronchial lymph nodes
  • Surgical lung diseases and how to treat them
  • Lung lobectomy practical using stapling devices
  • Pericardial disease and how to safely perform a pericardectomy
  • Closing the thorax
