Event Description
Registration will open at 09.30, with the course starting at 10.00. The course will finish at 16.00.
Many vets are still treating multiple species and expected to do so to higher and higher standards. At the end of a long evening surgery, heading for a down cow on a big commercial farm or a valuable collapsed alpaca can be an intimidating experience when it isn’t your day-to-day role.
Using a system-based approach this course will look at common emergency presentations in commercial farm animals and the individual pet, including ruminants, camelids and pigs. You will benefit from being able to submit your own cases before the course to ensure relevant discussion and the chance to use the expertise of the course tutor on your own challenging situations.
After attending this course you will be able to:
• Confidently approach emergencies in commercial cattle, pet ruminants, camelids and pet pigs
• Follow best practise and understand licencing implications when formulating analgesic protocols in emergency patients
• Select appropriate diagnostic tests and interpret these for the effective management of emergencies
• Employ the vital tools of enteral and intravenous fluid therapy in farm animal emergencies
• Engage in best practice antimicrobial prescribing and appreciate the challenges around this in farm animal practice.
