About the course

This day course will look at anaesthesia specifics, with a main focus on major organ diseases such as anaesthesia of patients with respiratory and cardiac disease.  We will discuss considerations for geriatrics, who may well have a degree of renal dysfunction, along with special requirements for paediatric patients.

Specific areas to be covered:

•  Understand the function of the respiratory system and the different regions that can be affected by disease

•  Identify anaesthetic agents and techniques to achieve a successful outcome for patients with respiratory disease

•  Understand the function and physiology of the cardiovascular system, and how different cardiac diseases are likely to affect it

•  Understand how an immature patient’s major organ systems differ from an adult, and how to select anaesthesia protocols

•  Safe anaesthesia of geriatric patients, and particularly those with co-morbidities
