This two-day course is aimed at delegates with some experience of external skeletal fixation looking to expand their skill set to include the use of hybrid and circular fixation.

The course combines lectures and dry-lab practical sessions. You will learn the indications of and instrumentation for application of hybrid external fixation as well as the use of full circular external skeletal fixation for fracture stabilisation, distraction osteogenesis and correction, of antebrachial growth deformities.

With two highly respected orthopaedic specialists providing the training, this promises to be a top-flight course for surgeons looking to take their external fixation skills to the next level.

Learning Objectives

By the end of the course you will be able to:

  • Explain the principles and instrumentation for hybrid and circular fixation techniques
  • Understand the frame configurations appropriate for hybrid / circular fixation of fractures of the humerus, radius and ulna, femur and tibia and their application
  • Select and apply an appropriate fixator for limb lengthening/ distraction osteogenesis
  • Plan and a hinged circular fixator for correction of antebrachial deformity due to premature closure of the distal ulnar growth plate
  • Manage hybrid and circular fixators postoperatively
  • Perfect your management of complications of external skeletal fixation
