This intensive two day practical course is designed for Vets & other professionals that would like to gain more experience and skills in youngstock best practice.

This course will cover:

 The importance and economics of young stock rearing

 WET LAB colostrum tests, what’s achievable

 DISSECTION of pre-weaned GI tract and how it matures

 Understanding the oesophageal groove

 VIRTUAL FARM TOURS disease problem solving

 Respiratory problems and its lifelong effect

 ON FARM housing assessments, range of equipment, altering old builds and where to start with new builds

 ON FARM nutrition discussion, including acid milk, pasteurisers and how to read milk powder tickets

 This course will include over 7 hours of wet lab and farm practical’s

Course Tutors Bio:

Roger has spent almost his entire life in farm animal practice, accumulating a wealth of experience in calf rearing and youngstock issues. He has written numerous articles and presented talks to farm and vet audiences in the UK and overseas.

Kat graduated in 2011 and went straight into all farm work, she soon realised her passion lay in young stock advice. In 2013 she started her youngstock plan, where farms have specific quarterly visits and now has over 20 farms. Since then in 2015 she was awarded the MSD bursary to look into the importance of colostrum cleanliness.

Oliver has had a particular interest in young stock since qualifying in 2006. Oliver has developed Shepton Vets youngstock service, worked with several industry stakeholders including AHDB, pharmaceutical companies and large calf-rearing organisations. He has written extensively for both veterinary and farming press and is author of “Veterinary Guide to Rearing Dairy Heifers”.
