About the course

(leading to RCVS Diploma Advanced Veterinary Nursing (Dip AVN)

This innovative and dynamic Diploma course, awarded by the University of Central Lancashire and validated by the Royal College of Veterinary Surgeons, is accessible, flexible, progressive and professionally recordable and will fill a niche in veterinary nursing education provision.  It has been structured in such a way that will facilitate both the personal and professional development of qualified registered veterinary nurses and positively assist those who are returning to academic work.

The nature of the course, having both a theoretical and clinical perspective, necessitates access to practice of at least 12 weeks annually for the duration of the course.  Students are also expected to attend College for an introductory study period at the beginning of each year followed by 3 study weekends per academic year to support their studies.

 Modules include: Essential Study, IT and Research Skills; Law, Ethics and Professional Practice; Applied Veterinary Physiology; Systematic Delivery of Veterinary Nursing Care; Veterinary Anaesthesia; Veterinary Theatre Practice; Veterinary Surgical Nursing; Veterinary Medical Nursing; Veterinary Diagnostic Imaging.
