About the course

A better understanding of our decision-making processes has important benefits for our ability to deliver safe, effective patient care and has significant implications for patient outcomes. This course adopts a case and problem-based approach to explore the application of theories and frameworks to clinical decision making in veterinary practice. 

Learning objectives 

  • Develop knowledge and critical understanding of theories and frameworks of decision-making that will support clinical practice.
  • Explore the nature of clinical judgements and decisions looking at the potential human error and cognitive bias. 
  • Enhance your knowledge and skills in the management of uncertainty and the application of reasoning in your delivery of care. 
  • Evaluate ways in which evidence-based practice will support clinical decision-making.  Critically reflect on the use of problem-solving strategies in the use of clinical decision-making in practice.
