About the course

Diseases of the travelling pet with Ian Wright - A 4 part series.

Relaxation of the pet travel rules has led to increasing numbers of UK pet owners taking their cats and dogs abroad. This in combination with an increased spread of pet parasites across Europe has led to a greater risk of pets becoming infected with exotic parasites while travelling. The need to protect travelling pets and to prevent clinically significant exotic parasites becoming endemic in the UK has therefore never been more vital. This series provides an update on the Pet Travel Scheme (PETS), an overview of the clinically important pet parasites associated with pet travel (heartworm, Echinococcus multilocularis, tick borne diseases and Leishmania donovani) as well as emerging parasitic threats in Europe. How this information may then be applied in pet travel clinics will then be discussed with case examples.

Topics covered include:
  • An update on the UK Pet Travel Scheme
  • Leishmaniosis, babesiosis & ehrlichiosis
  • Case discussions
