About the course

As a nurse, you will see many patients suffering from cardiovascular diseases. From heart failure to murmurs, even anaesthetic complications. This course covers a wide range of situations you may be presented with and will teach you to tackle them head on.

Those cases you’ve seen in the past, did you truly understand what was happening and why?

By providing a basic knowledge of pathophysiology and anatomy you can fully understand what is happening on the inside, why certain drugs were chosen and how your nursing skills can really make a difference.

The nursing involvement and spotting early signs can really make a difference to the patient's outcome.

You will learn:

  • Pathophysiology – heart disease, heart failure, hyper/hypotension and pericardial effusions
  • Clinical Signs – what the owner will notice?
  • Triage Skills – Rapid assessment and treatment of the dyspnoeic patient
  • Clinical Examination – murmurs, arrhythmias, pulse palpation
  • Diagnosis – what tests will the vet ask for and why?
  • ECGs – basic interpretation skills, such as what is normal and when to worry!
  • Management – what do the drugs actually do? What are the latest recommendations?
