Nutrition of the Geriatric Patient - Half Day Course

About the course

This half day course focuses on the specific nutritional requirements of older dogs and cats; from calories and nutrients, to what to feed them when they're suffering from systemic disease. We will cover how age affects body composition and ability to fight disease; as well as the specific nutritional requirements for many geriatric diseases. This will include diabetes mellitus, renal disease, gastrointestinal disease, hepatic diseases and many more! We will also cover obesity management, sarcopenia, management of the anorexic patient and alternative feeding techniques such as naso-oesophageal tube placement and total parenteral nutrition.
